Introduction
Augmented and Virtual Reality have made a comeback recently, and look to be amongst one of the hottest education technology trends in 2018.
The opportunities they offer to students and teachers are limitless - transporting them to situations that would be geographically, historically or generally impossible without them.
With the introduction of low cost technology such as Virtual Reality cardboards and the explosion of educational apps – classroom lessons are being brought to life in an interactive visual form, previously only seen via pictures and video.
Augmented and Virtual Reality allow students to engage with educational content in a whole new way. They can travel to the Great Wall of China, explore the Titanic, bring a picture to life and create 3D artwork.
The inclusion of this technology into the curriculum can support teachers to map the development of skills for the future workforce, which is expected, with the fast paced rate that technology is emerging, to be heavily automated and potentially a change to the workplace becoming a virtual environment.
