The Staffordshire and Shropshire STEM Ambassador Hub was delighted to be involved in the recent Unity 2022 event organised by Girlguiding Staffordshire.
Held every four years, Unity is Girlguiding Staffordshire's international camp event. This year the focus was on art, engineering, the environment, maths, science and technology.
Hub ambassadors attended and supported a range of activities during a STEM Taster Day as part of the week-long camp, at the Kibblestone International Scout Campsite, in August.
The aim of the day was to encourage young women to discover hobbies that involve STEM, develop new skills, gain environmental awareness, and consider future STEM professions.
"I had such a great time. It was so great to be able to connect with the younger generation and inspire them," said Stoke-on-Trent GP and Hub ambassador, Dr Zainab Hussain.
Michelle Mukona, an environment and sustainability advisor for Siemens, was attending her first event as an ambassador.

"I wasn’t sure what to expect with it being such a large group of young people and being my first volunteering event but the whole experience was enjoyable," she said. "The girls, leads and teachers were brilliant and, on top of that, I learned so much."
A competition organised by the Staffordshire and Shropshire STEM Ambassador Hub on the day garnered 350 entries, with two STEM kits, donated by Entrust, given away as prizes to the winners.
“It was a really good day - better than we could have hoped for - great engagement from all the companies and the girls got such a lot out of it,” said Girlguiding Midlands lead Julie Tanner.
