Instruments included at no extra cost. The service approach is that partnership with the school is key to ensuring all children who wish to are able to take up elective, co-curricular, music lessons. For this reason, provision for primary schools is billed to the school and some choose to then pass a proportion of the cost on to the parents. The school can devise a charging policy and approach that best suits their demographic. Most high school provision is also billed to the school but, in some settings, parents are billed for lessons directly and the school provides additional financial support (e.g. for exam pupils or for families with lower income).

A key component of the National Plan for Music Education and the recently published Model Music Curriculum, the WCET programme provides a vibrant foundation of music-making and equips pupils with the vital skills, knowledge and understanding that will enable them to make good progress with instrumental and vocal learning in future years.
Participating schools receive a weekly session for a class of children and the choice of instruments for the programme includes strings, brass, woodwind, percussion, guitar, and ukulele. Schools can decide which of these choices best suits their needs, pupil interests, educational outcomes and /or budget.
As WCET is a curriculum time provision, schools do not pass this cost on to parents meaning all children are able to access the same provision regardless of their background or circumstance. The service encourages schools and families to work with us to encourage children to continue with their learning in instrumental and vocal lessons.
The music service provides experienced music teachers to deliver the full or part of the music curriculum in many schools throughout Staffordshire.
Delivered by experienced teachers, specialist music curriculum teaching covers the requirements of the National Curriculum, including creative, practical, performing, composing and listening activities to meet the individual needs of pupils.
