Health, safety and wellbeing is important in every workplace but for schools and academies it can be difficult to find the specific support, information and resources you need. We are committed to offering you a range of services to help you deliver the very best for your pupils and employees. Working in partnership with your senior leadership team, we can guide and support you towards successful health, safety and wellbeing management ensuring a healthy and safe place for learning.
Our services include:
Health and safety – guidance and information to support, develop and improve management of health and safety.
Occupational health including management referrals, pre-employment assessments and access to physiotherapy and counselling support.
Design and technology testing and repair of equipment
Health and safety training - delivered on your site or at our central location
Fire risk assessments – supporting you to meet the requirements of the Fire Safety (Reform) Order.
Wellbeing – Through “WellMe” we provide support in four different areas Physical, Mental, Social and Financial wellbeing.

You can be confident in getting the support your school needs with our comprehensive D&T Service SLA which includes:
An annual safety/condition inspection of your D&T equipment including an emailed report
Inspections for mechanical safety, including the operation of all safety devices and guards on fixed equipment.
Inspections/checks for electrical safety of agreed equipment.
Checks on agreed gas equipment in D&T areas.
Report identifying any recommendations for action where necessary.
Repair and maintenance of agreed D&T equipment
Machines that form part of the Agreed D&T Equipment list will be repaired. Parts required for the repair are included in the Service price, save where not commercially viable or the equipment is Beyond economical repair.
Any repairs identified in the Inspection Report will be carried out during the contract period in a priority order to be agreed between the School/Academy and the D&T Support Service.
Breakdown cover on agreed machinery – no call-out fees.
Minor maintenance, which may include but is not limited to:
Adjustment of fixed equipment; and ensuring that machines are lubricated to manufacturer’s recommendations.
Adjustment and maintenance of the electrical installation, connections, and switchgear of fixed machines.
Advice and support on agreed D&T equipment
Our D&T engineers also provide advice via telephone, email or on-site visit, on the procurement of D&T equipment, its installation and use enabling you to plan and budget for the future.

Standard Package
Supporting you towards successful health and safety management we will:
Act as your competent health and safety advisor in accordance with the Management Regulations
Provide professional consultancy advice, guidance and support on local policy and arrangements, defining and clarification of health and safety roles, development of local safe working practices and assistance with complex risk assessments
Audit your existing health and safety management systems and provide a report and action plan
Provide a single contact point for all health and safety queries via our Health and Safety Duty Officer
Investigate any serious accidents and support the management of the immediate and on-going impact of a serious incident
Provide annual access to a smart survey tool on employee stress and wellbeing
Provide access to ‘My Health and Safety’ a web-based accident and management system
Notify reportable accidents, injuries, and dangerous occurrences to the relevant enforcement authority.
Enhanced Package
This package includes the standard service plus additional services comprising of the following:
Annual planning meeting to support an individual school to improve its performance, management systems and competency and skills
Free attendance at termly, health and safety update briefings to improve information, skills and knowledge.
With our health and safety service, you will have access to an experienced Health and Safety Officer via a dedicated phone line and email who can respond to your queries and concerns.

“WellMe” resources are available to all our Health and Safety SLA customers. WellMe aims to support staff to develop skills and strategies to help improve their own wellbeing in whatever areas they choose. This includes access to:

Smart survey tool on employee stress and wellbeing

Providing solutions on managing employee ill health and sickness absence, we will:
Provide a timely and effective confidential pre-employment health screening service, compliant with the Equality Act 2010.
Access to our online Occupational Health portal to manage your referrals, consent management and access to reports in one easy place.
Devise, co-ordinate and monitor a return to work programme.
Highlight health issues covered within disability legislation and advise on reasonable adjustments to allow an employee to return to work in some capacity.
Advise employees on what they should be asking their own GP.
Identify if an employee will not be returning in the medium term (or at all) and give some idea on timescales.
Offer pay as you go services such as physiotherapy and health screening.
We can advise on managing employee ill health and sickness absence. This will include advising on health issues that may be affected by work or that may affect the ability to work.
ThinkWell provides friendly, confidential, fast track access to prevention and early intervention services which meet the needs of individuals who are struggling with their emotional wellbeing. Colleagues who work for schools or academies who buy the Occupational Health SLA can request support for themselves directly from ThinkWell. These self-referrals are strictly confidential, and managers will not be notified or receive reports.
