What do the experts think?
Jeff Kirschner’s inspiring TED talk shows how data – time stamping, geo-locating and itemising litter – could be used to drive awareness and engagement around a universal problem.

Inspired by Jeff’s talk, we asked Matt Stagg, Director of Product and Innovation at Barrachd, part of Capita,
'How can data be used to create an information advantage?'
That is, the ability to access and augment data to make evidence-based decisions in real time, to gain competitive advantage.
According to Matt, the potential for disruption when it comes to non-curated data is exponential – especially in the roles of “digital witnesses”, where raw and abstract material that is posted online can be analysed and interpreted to deliver new insight that no one else has.
Increasingly, he believes we will also see the emergence of shadow technicians, tracking the day-to-day actions of people and applying data analytics expertise to augment operations.
This information advantage will help solve problems faster; increase efficiencies and reduce spending, ultimately resulting in a better provision of all services, in every environment.
In response to this, we asked our clients to share with us the idea from the last few years that they most admire – or wish they’d thought of.
Ideas put forward from respondents centred strongly around three main themes:
According to a report from Oxford and Yale Universities, advances in AI will transform life as we know it. In the next ten years, researchers predict AI will outperform humans in many activities. AI will no doubt change the way we work; in the future jobs and careers will be fundamentally different as they present a blend of technology and human capabilities.
According to Capita’s own research, 72% of UK business leaders believe the shift to a hybrid workforce will be their biggest challenge over the next 5 years. (Source: When Will AI Exceed Human Performance?)
What can you do?
In the world around us, change is happening every day. Prepare now for the future: tackle challenges such as skills shortages; an aging workforce; and the need to re-skill staff to stay relevant as technology becomes an increasing part of our lives.
