Jon LewisCEO, Capita
At Capita we pride ourselves on our people, our collaborative ways of working and our customer relationships. Our Defence, Learning, Fire and Security teams exemplify this in every way. Whether it’s the way our teams deliver or how we work side by side, in partnership with our clients, we are there for you.
This last year has reinforced to me how important our defence and wider resilience business is to Capita. Through our larger contracts, The Recruiting Partnership Project for the British Army, the Defence Fire and Rescue Project or Project Selborne working with the Royal Navy, we have shown the Capita ethos of true collaboration is at the forefront of engagement with our customers.
The war in Europe has proved that making sure our Armed Forces have the right people, who are properly trained has never been as important as it is now. I am proud to say that through our work with UK Armed Forces, we are making an essential contribution to this national effort.
Whilst 2022 has not been without challenges, we recognise that levels of uncertainty across the globe and for our customers will continue for a while longer. I am proud of the work carried out jointly by our teams and look forward to another year of working closely with our defence partners.
Air Chief Marshal Sir Stephen Hillier Chair, Defence Advisory Board, Capita
The last 12 months have seen the outbreak of war in Europe and demonstrated vividly the range of other current and potential security challenges faced by the world. What has also been confirmed is the importance of ensuring that armed forces have the right people, fully trained to the required standards and with the flexibility to adapt to rapidly changing circumstances.
I know from my own extensive experience in Defence that the UK’s armed forces are second to none, hugely respected nationally and internationally for their capability and experience. As but one example, by the end of 2022 we had trained nearly 10,000 Ukrainian troops in the UK, including specialist training to the Ukrainian Navy through Project Selborne, which has already transformed training for the Royal Navy.
The importance of ensuring that highly talented men and women are encouraged to join the armed forces and contribute to the security of our nation is extremely important to us all. I am proud of the hard work and commitment of colleagues at Capita to delivering and enhancing military capability, from recruitment and, training modernisation through to the delivery of Defence Fire and Rescue and a range of other vital national security programmes.
Richard HolroydMD and Client Partner, Defence, Learning, Fire and Security, Capita
Never before has training and talent management in the Armed Forces been as important or front and centre as it is at the moment. As Air Chief Marshal Sir Stephen Hillier highlights from his own experience, the UK’s Armed Forces are hugely respected across the globe for their capability and experience, which is recognised by the training that the UK is doing for Ukrainian troops. What the war in Ukraine has demonstrated is that having the right people, along with the right assets, is fundamental to success.
Across Capita, our expertise lies in delivering large scale transformation programmes and Capita Defence’s experience in delivering people-focused programmes, in particular the modernisation of training, demonstrates this.
What is important to us is how we work in partnership with our customers. We are committed to being entirely integrated to meeting their demands, whilst remaining flexible to respond quickly to changing circumstances, both internally and externally.
In Project Selborne, for example, we’re working as strategic partners with the Royal Navy to modernise training. We are transforming Royal Navy training to prepare the nation’s sailors and marines so that we maximise the asymmetric advantage our people deliver on current and future operations.
We recognise the importance of people and skills to the Armed Forces. The British Military has always been an exemplar around the world for having the best people in a career that they love and we are passionate in taking that to the next level. To be able to do that, we are competing for people in a world where the competition for jobs today is higher than it’s ever been. We recognise that it is not an easy task but we are committed to ensuring that the British Army has the people it needs to continue delivering for the Armed Forces.
Our offering focuses on four areas which demonstrate that we are a transformation partner and service integrator, in line with Capita’s overall strengths:
Training and learning: delivering Better trained personnel for our customers in partnership/at scale. Better Trained is the result of designing and delivering Better Training and Better Training Systems
People: delivering people services over the full service lifecycle, focusing on the whole force at all levels of scale
Digital: releasing resource to the front line by automating insights into difficult processes, thereby enhancing efficiency and managing risk and compliance
Transformation and partnering: providing an outstanding hub for scalable, collaborative partnering with customers and partners of all sizes; enabling transformation, modernisation and efficiency through ecosystem collaboration
These four areas of focus demonstrate what we do and how we do it. We couldn’t do it without our people, who have to be the best they can be. Our customers expect no less and neither do we. So, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone in Capita Defence, Learning, Fire and Security for all their hard work in delivering for our customers.
